What about if ship shields were just like station force fields, having a radius. This support module could extend this radius, protecting anyone close enough and provide a boost to the strength. It should not be able to deactivate until the shield...

There is depreciation of modules, every few months they get worse. CCP calls it balance. Players call it nerfing. I don't mind it, I just thought I'd mention that point.
